Illnesses
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance is vital for your child’s development. If your child will be absent, please inform the office with the dates and reason. We may ask for specific details to help monitor any contagious illnesses and safeguard the nursery community. Please don’t be offended—this is in line with guidance from the NHS, Department for Education, and UKHSA.
“It is usually appropriate for parents and carers to send their children to school with mild respiratory illnesses. This includes general cold symptoms: a minor cough, runny nose or sore throat. However, children should not be sent to school if they have a temperature of 38°C or above.”
We encourage all parents to read the NHS guidance:
Is my child too ill for school? (https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/ ).
Please note it is our policy:
- Children should not attend nursery if they’ve been given Calpol, Ibuprofen, or similar over-the-counter medicines, as these can mask symptoms.
- We can only administer prescription medicines—a form must be completed at the office.
- After any episodes of vomiting or diarrhoea, children must remain off nursery for 48 hours to prevent the spread of illness.
